After last night's toss into the ocean of web design, I'm fortunately still treading water, albeit only barely.
The overall layout is coming together, and aesthetically things are looking promising. Unfortunately, I'm no closer to knowing how I'm going to do the PhotoLog then I was yesterday.
Here's what still needs to be done:
1) Redo the righthand side pictures so I can get rid of the ones I stole Noah Grey's website, from which the layout of my site was blatantly ripped his off.
2) I still need a proper banner for the site. While I like the B&W sky image posted currently, perhaps a little bit of color would be good. However, I want to keep the majority of the site very pale so that once pictures are put into the PhotoLog, they will really stand out.
3) Of course, sometime over the next few days this site will need to be moved to its new home, www.BrownBagTheatre.com. Though hardly a big undertaking, it will require some time that could otherwise be spent on design.
4) Last, and certainly not least, I need to do some serious research on how to implement the PhotoLog. Once that's complete, the ultimate plan will be to switch off of this site as the primary home of Brown Bag Theatre, and implement a more picture-oriented main site. This site, or at least some resemblance of it, will remain as the log page. Basically, I need to eventually design something of my own.
Other than that, I want to start making some of the auxiliary pages (such as the reading list) utilizing a simple CSS format.
This is the basic layout for the new site. I'm still VERY new to all this and am only slowly figuring out how to actually build this site.
I need to do the following:
1) Make the site look good, and work out the aesthetic bugs.
2) Set the proper links in the sidebar.
3) Create a proper banner and such for the site. Until then, the temporary sky banner will have to do.
4) Tackle the ENORMOUS undertaking of figuring out how to make the Foto Log work. The finished product should display my most recently uploaded pictures in the bar to the left (I'm guessing about 8 to 10 per page). Then, I would like to have it that when a picture is clicked on, the user will be directed to a new page wherein the full size picture will be shown, flanked in some way by "previous" and "next" arrows so that they can view the previous or next picture in the series in full size. I have absolutely NO idea how to do this yet.
